Norwich-born Mary Banham-Hall graduated from UCL (Law) in 1975, was admitted as a solicitor in 1979, and became a mediator in 1998. She has spent the majority of her professional life helping couples navigate the trauma of separation and divorce. Mary now dedicates most of her time to mediating and running her company, Focus Mediation, which she set up in 1999, and which specialises in Alternative Dispute Resolution.
"There are common themes running through many divorces and family breakdowns. Often people work through the same stages and behave in similar, sometimes unhelpful, ways with each other and with their children. Mostly they have no idea what a well-trodden emotional and psychological path they are on. I wanted to help, but I didn’t want to write a textbook or self-help guide. I decided to write a novel – something to relax with, to take on holiday, an entertaining read." – from the Afterword by Mary Banham-Hall
